Sand Springs and Sunburst Open House at 6 p.m., Thursday Feb. 6, Sand Springs Elementary School.

Public Hearing at Davis School Board Meeting at 6 p.m., Tuesday March 18, District Auditorium.

Davis School District Elementary Director Traci Robbins and Boundary Study Consultant Dr. Helene Van Natter presented updates on the boundary studies for Sunburst and Sand Springs elementaries, and Eagle Bay and Canyon Creek elementaries.

For Sunburst and Sand Springs elementaries, the proposal involves moving approximately 150 students to Sand Springs Elementary to accommodate overcrowding at Sunburst.

Public comments will be collected online at elboundarystudy@dsdmail.net, and an open house is scheduled for Feb. 6 at Sand Springs Elementary School.

The presentation also addressed the issue of low enrollment in the English-only program at Eagle Bay Elementary. The proposed temporary solution is to have first, second and third graders who select an English-only curriculum to attend Canyon Creek Elementary.

The board emphasized the need for long-term solutions and encouraged community input through the boundary email and upcoming meetings. The final recommendations will be presented in February.

South Weber presents proposed CRA for board review

Davis School District Board of Education received a presentation from South Weber City officials about a Community Reinvestment Area project. Davis School District Business Administrator Tim Leffel introduced the project, highlighting its significance for the city.

David Larson, South Weber's city manager, detailed the project near the I-84 interchange, emphasizing its potential to create over 100 jobs and generate significant revenue. The project, led by General RV, aims to develop an RV sales and service area with an education center, contributing to the city's economic growth.

The board was asked to consider a request for 50% of the increased property tax value for 10 years to support the project. Larson stressed the importance of tax incentives in spurring development and improving public infrastructure.

The district currently receives $10,446 annually from the property. After its development and full return to taxable value, the district would receive $105,867 annually from the area.

South Weber Mayor Rod Westbrook echoed Larson's sentiments, emphasizing the project's potential to alleviate the tax burden on residents and enhance the community's quality of life. The board members engaged in a discussion, addressing concerns about the project's timing and the necessity of the incentives. They will consider the proposal in a future board meeting.
