Board receives annual school improvement approval process

As part of an annual required training, Davis School District Assessment Director Dr. Greg Wilkey presented approval process details to the school board for the school Learning and Nurturing Development (LAND) Trust program. The program is funded by Utah Trust Lands and provides millions of dollars to public K-12 schools.

This process begins each school year in October and is a collaborative effort of each school's administration and community council. Finalized LAND Trust plans will be available for board review on May 6.

School board members will then have a four-week window to read their assigned plans and each school's plan will be reviewed by two board members.

Once the school plans receive board approval, they will be submitted to the State Board of Education for final approval.

Board votes on business meeting agenda items

The Board of Education:

  • Gave final approval to a boundary realignment for Sunburst and Sand Springs elementary to take effect in the 2025-2026 school year. The boundary realignment resolves overcrowding at Sunburst and declining enrollment at Sand Springs Elementary. The approved boundary change will move a neighborhood of approximately 150 students that is currently attending Sunburst Elementary to Sand Springs Elementary.

  • Gave final approval of the adoption of English Language Arts Curriculum for grades 7-12.

  • Approved the Woods Cross High School water line replacement contract to Briskey Plumbing Specialists for $816,686.

  • Approved South Davis Junior High School boiler replacement contract to Salmon Mechanical for $639,210.26.

  • Approved Tolman Elementary School boiler replacement contract to Salmon Mechanical for $396,618.64.

  • Gave consent agenda approval of an updated administrative contract provision. It includes an update to comply with House Bills 75 and 192, which allows for qualifying district employees being entitled to up to three weeks of paid postpartum leave and up to an additional three weeks of parental leave.
